Police name man who died in Barnsley altercation

South Yorkshire Police have named the man who died following an altercation in Barnsley at the weekend as Shaun Ian Mason.

At around 11.30pm on Saturday 17 June, emergency services were called to a property in Manor Court, Genn Lane, Worsbrough, following reports of a group of men and women fighting outside of the address.

Mr Mason, 42, was taken to hospital after sustaining a serious head injury. He sadly died in hospital on Sunday 18 June.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Whittaker, said: “A forensic post-mortem examination carried out yesterday (Monday 19 June), found that Mr Mason died as a result of a head injury.

“We have a team of officers working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding his death and we are continuing to support to his family.

“We remain keen to hear from anyone who was in the area on Saturday evening and who knows anything about what happened.

Two men, aged 40 and 27, arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of assault remain on police bail as enquiries continue.
