MP meets next generation of local radio stars

Stephanie Peacock, MP for Barnsley East, met with some of Barnsley’s up-and-coming radio talents in Parliament recently (see picture).

As part of a reception hosted by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Commercial Radio, Kyle Walker, Karl Wellbelove and Matty Hugill visited Parliament to celebrate local radio.

The three Barnsley residents feature on The Vibe Radio, and host an award-winning football feature, ‘Everything Football’.

The Vibe Radio is an online radio platform supported by Barnsley College, and specialises in indie music alongside a host of other features and programmes.

Everything Football airs every Friday at 3pm on The Vibe.

Said Stephanie: “Barnsley is jam-packed full of talent, and The Vibe is a fantastic local initiative that gives a platform for many young people to demonstrate their skills.

“Kyle, Karl and Matty’s football show has earned rave reviews and an award, and their visit to Parliament was a great opportunity to congratulate them in person.

“Backed by the talent and passion of young people in Barnsley and supported by Barnsley college, I’ve no doubt The Vibe will continue to experience great success.”

Stephanie also spoke recently at the Barnsley Academy celebratory breakfast.

The yearly event, held to celebrate the achievements of the Academy’s outstanding students, was also attended by local councillors Wayne Johnson and John Clarke, and the South Yorkshire Police Commander for Barnsley, Scott Green.

During her speech, Stephanie congratulated the students on their success, spoke about the importance of hard work in achieving your goals, and spoke about the real difference young people in Barnsley can make in their communities.

She said:“It was a real pleasure to attend the Barnsley Academy celebratory breakfast. It was great to meet so many talented, dedicated young people, and to hear about their outstanding achievements at Barnsley Academy over the last year.

“We’re so fortunate that, here in Barnsley, we have so many brilliant, hard working young people who are keen to make a difference in their community, and I can’t wait to see what they achieve in future.”
